The Journey


YUNI was founded by natural beauty pioneers and yoga teachers, Emmanuel Rey and Suzanne Dawson. YUNI creates healthy, natural solutions that save time, enhance performance and relieve stress – so active people who pursue life with passion can do more, live more and find more joy in every moment.

YUNI’s products embody a philosophy we call responsible beauty. Because we believe that people should be empowered to take responsibility for their own wellness, we select natural ingredients that enhance health and avoid artificial ingredients that may be harmful. That’s why our formulas are non-toxic, plant based and free of parabens, phthalates, formaldehyde, petrolatum, sodium lauryl/laureth sulfates, mineral oil, synthetic colors or fragrances, GMOs, PABA, EDTA, or PEGs. Because we believe that people are responsible for the health of the planet, YUNI products are biodegradable, compostable, tested on humans (never on animals) and that’s why the organic, natural ingredients we use are consciously and sustainably sourced. Because we believe that people are responsible for the social and economic effects of their choices, we strive to select fair trade natural ingredients for all our formulas.

founders.jpgWe’ve dedicated our lives to the seeking of good. In fact, we are so committed to this idea that we’ve even integrated it into our company tag-line. We are passionate about attracting people who feel the same way about their Yoga practice, and about life!

In 2012, we both completed our Ashtanga Yoga teacher training in Amorgos, Greece. During those weeks there with our fellow Yogis, we took the opportunity to learn a lot about how and why they valued their practice so deeply, and what they yearned for to possibly enhance their Yoga experience. Those conversations led to the development of YUNI.

Here’s what we discovered:

  • YOGIS WANT MORE MAT-TIME. This was a universally expressed desire: Yogis would like to practice more often. Often, they experience a time-crunch, especially in the morning before work and around the noon lunch-hour. Even if there is an hour in the schedule to commit to a yoga session, we often cannot squeeze in the addition time needed for a refreshing shower after we leave the mat. Further adding to the pressure: many yoga studios don’t offer shower facilities.

  • YOGIS WANT TO FEEL THE GLOW, LONGER. When you practice regularly, you feel great physically, mentally and spiritually. However, the distractions of daily life may interrupt the effects of our practice. Yogis want to make the afterglow of the Yoga Moment last longer. In experiential terms, the products are created to support quicker recovery after exertion, deeper breathing, and the more lasting feel-good sensations.

  • YOGIS WANT A “RE-DIAL” OPTION. Not only did we hear that Yogis want to prolong the benefits of an ongoing Yoga practice—we also heard again and again that Yogis wish that they could summon the powerful, balancing sensations of the Yoga Moment, on the spot, on command. In moments of stress, especially.

We took these discussions and came to two conclusions: Yoga is a highly personal ritual that people do for themselves, to create a space which many call sacred. The focus is to uncover the best of one’s self, which then prepares each of us to go back into the world and do more good with a renewed sense of clarity and purpose.

And, given our background with building a couple of the world’s great beauty brands with higher consciousness, we believe that beauty, too, is ritualistic— cleansing and conditioning the skin and hair, delighting in natural aromas for the body and one’s personal space, harnessing active botanicals which have a natural-neuro effect and nurturing and soothing the remarkable architecture of our minds and bodies with the power of touch.

We were inspired to connect these two rituals—Yoga and Beauty. Our concept for our products address the three needs we uncovered during our Yoga certification, in the following ways:
